Saturday evening[final dot]

It is been a long time since I had felt the away I am feeling right now.

This is the perfect mood for to post something here.

Not knowing about what to write I will write about something simple: happiness.

Happiness is a strange state-of-mind.

Is the eternal quest from pretty much everybody in the world. Most people think that happiness comes with sense of achievement, either getting a better job, new plastic boobs or learning a new language. I think they are stupid.

I confess I still do not believe that happiness can the an all present state of mind as Buddhism claims but I believe they are right about how you can work out happiness from your inner-self.

Basically, I can feel the joy of happiness on very distinctive conditions but they always share something in common: simplicity.

Happiness is sitting down for a coffee with a friend and stay there endless hours talking about to conquer the world in 2 hours, sex, technology or religion.
Happiness is drive a car without expected arrival time or especial destination with a radio throwing me Jazz or soft-rock at full speed.
Happiness is cleaning the fridge because there is nothing else to do.
Happiness is to sit down at an open window for hours.
Happiness is inviting at 15.30h four long lasting friends to watch a movie at 16.00h and knowing that they will be there sharing pop-corn for you.
Happiness is inviting 40 people to your party and do not care if 36 of them do not show up.
Happiness is having sex because that is want you want to do.
Happiness is knowing when a tear is a tear and a smile is a smile.
Happiness is looking at a Prada or Dolce & Gabana shop and laugh.
Happiness is knowing you will always have a tomorrow and accept when you won't.
Happiness is accepting your four year old son drawing as if it was a masterpiece.
Happiness is accepting you cannot change the world, nevertheless you are happy while trying it.
Happiness is rejecting the touch of the reddish because you know she just wants to touch and not feel.
Happiness is knowing that money only has the value you give to it.
Happiness is knowing that is better to be really famous among your peers than just famous.
Happiness is reading a novel, while cruising the Baltic, and having a seagull flying over your head all the time.
Happiness is knowing when to stop being alone and when to start being alone.
Happiness is knowing when we should stop and think.
Happiness is knowing when we should act and do.
Happiness is knowing yourself before try to know the other.
Happiness is not being afraid of fail because you know "even a stopped clock is right two times per day"
Happiness is understand what is love, romance, passion, seduction and fantasy.
Happiness is say what you know and listed to the things you do not know.
Happiness is understand you get more when you are shut up than when you speak.
Happiness is not try to impose yourself but let others impose on you.
Happiness is to give once, twice, thrice but not always.
Happiness is to receive, receive and then give.
Happiness is to be a man: plant a tree, write a book and have a child.
Happiness is to be hungry once in a while.
Happiness is to know why you are hungry.
Happiness is to give a fishing bow and not the fish.
Happiness is understand the real problems are those which are about to come.
Happiness is to accept either you have a big problem your friends have bigger ones.
Happiness is never to resign or be conformed but not complain about what you do not have.
Happiness is knowing you will die.
Happiness is knowing you will die no matter what.
Happiness is knowing eternity comes with the people you meet. When the people you know die you will die forever.
Happiness is knowing real eternity comes with the things you do. If they are good enough you will always live in others peoples lives.
Happiness is knowing that there is not easy route to success.
Happiness is knowing there are only three ways of being the boss: being the boss, marry his daughter or be the best.
Happiness is knowing being the best comes with practice, practice comes with trial and error and trials take time.
Happiness is knowing time is money and time is limited.
Happiness is knowing everything is possible if you can expand time.
Happiness is knowing there is always those who know more than us and less.
Happiness is change someone's lives for better and let others change ours.
Happiness is not believing in dogmas. Dogmas are created by unhappy people.
Happiness is believe in something but not try to make others believe in it.
Happiness is knowing something and make other know it also.
Happiness is knowing money is not everything but you are anything without it.
Happiness is accepting the difference.
Happiness is being different.
Happiness is to follow icons to be an icon.
Happiness is to share.
Happiness is to be open.
Happiness is to ban copyright.
Happiness is not take anything for granted: you will miss air when you are asphyxiating.
Happiness is realise that everything has it bright and dark side: oxygen can kill you.
Happiness is to have friends: a "friend" contract never expires and has no small letters.
Happiness is surprise those you like with small presents. Specially if there is no reason for a surprise.
Happiness is do not have a dog if you cannot.
Happiness is to say "FUCK THIS" whenever you feel like.

My plan was to reach the 100th "Happiness is" but I am feeling a bit tired... maybe you wanna give a help.

Self-righteousness

It is definitely true that we should firstly understand ourselves to understand the others and allow ourselves to "step back from self-righteousness", humbly accepting others opinions and then change their minds by shifting and opening their perspective.

Being lost in a spoiled world.

After watching another energizing Ted Talk and reflect about my last career accomplishment, the end of my Software Engineering degree, I concluded what already everybody knows. We just want to foolish ourselves about how important we are.

Independently of how sad we are about our situation, either is the fucking credit crunch, how small is our shared apartment, the companies food quality or the our bosses demands we should really take a day-off, as I did today, and wonder about our, from our own perspective, insignificant lives.

Fullfilment comes in great extent from acknowledgement, acknowledgement from our peers and, especially acknowledgement from our superiors, idols and icons. The big problem is that we descry on who provides this positive feedback to us.

Why the hell, do we want to prove ourselves to the fat guy and not to the hungry?
Why the hell, do we want to give a coin to the beggar?
Why the hell, do we want the new car when the old is still a car?
Why the hell, do we want uncomfortable shirts and not warm sweaters?
Why the hell, do we want caviar and not sturgeon?
Why the hell, do we always want black caviar and not red?

I consider myself an individualist, independent and selfish person. Since ever I've tried to emend and suppress this character edges...

Following this line of arguments, and knowing myself as I do, it will not take long I will start thinking more and more about giving than receiving.

The only thing it is missing is the formula, the module, the how-to...

And this is the point the Ted Talk comes in.

Everybody knows the flattening power the Web can have.

The only problem is how can the Web reach those who cannot afford it. The solution is easy and that's why I am pleased to work where I do for a simple reason: the Web and the mobile have to merge.

This merge brings a lot of advantages for who is poor.
The mobile phone is cheap, needs very little energy, is resistant and mobile.

As soon as this people start to have access to information they will gradually and exponentially leverage their life standards.

I, sincerely, hope to be there to watch it from close.

The Portuguese Humor!

"Portuguese people are of generally excellent humor when they are talking with someone who can't speak their language. This means that all manner of shop owners, sales-folk, and people curious about you will take time to try to carve out any means of communication, often with funny and unexpected results. Helping a foreigner is considered a pleasant and rewarding occasion and experience. If a traveller attempts to speak correct Portuguese, especially if slightly beyond the trivial, with locals, you will be treated with respect and often the local will apologize for how "difficult" it is to learn Portuguese, or how "hard" the language is, and will almost adopt you." at Wikitravel
